"We had to answer subtraction questions to find a message. We used stacked strategy" - Sam

Quality of Life

"We learned that we need a good government and a good home in a good community, and where you're close to a school and a job. You have everything you need." - Owen

"Some places have where you have to pay for school and you don't have so much money to get good schools or a house." - Evelyn

Math   This week we continued out work with addition in math - focusing on the stacked or traditional strategy. Next week we will move onto subtraction.  Grade 3s completed both sections of the math SLA as well.  Grade 4s worked on solving a low floor high ceiling problem by breaking the problem down, discussing what they think, and looking for patterns. Science Grade 3s began an experiment with salt today, following the scientific method. They worked to create reasonable a hypothesis with a reason.  Grade 4s read about the kaleidoscope and then created their own using everyday materials. They were focusing on how light interacts with reflective surfaces and translucent objects. Big Concepts We have been looking at the idea of "Geology" and are just about to wrap up our class concept map. We have started to look at "The Land" and "The People". Writing "We did writing. Writing about our winter vacation." Evelyn "In writing, this week we started a book called "The One and Only Ivan" and we read it for the whole week. After we read it each day we did a retell of the story." Mila "We also did some word work. There was a couple of letters and they were scrambled and we had to try to make some words from the letters." Son Math "We were working with shapes and patterns and we had to use shapes to make a pattern. and we had to write about it." Makena "We did patterns with some blocks and we could change colour and make it big or small." Evelyn "In math, we needed to find the meaning of 5 words which were congruent, symmetrical, face, vertex and side."
