Pink Shirt Day

"Pink Shirt  is where we wear pink shirts because a boy went to school in a pink shirt and he got bullied. One of the students wore pink shirts to school to support him." Jumana

"We got pink paper and we had to draw leave and put a nice message in them. Someone made a tree on our door and we put the leaves on the tree." Sam






Celebration of Learning

"We went home and we did the Celebration of Learning. We had to do math problems to show our parents how we are solving problems. We had a Locked Room they had to solve and we each made our own little part of the Locked Room. And we also showed the websites that we had created. We each got a new topic or a new city and we had to listen to news articles and then write about them." Makena

Multiplication

"We did multiples and would have to find the factors of the multiple." Evelyn
 
"We had to do a math problem where we had to find out how much coins he had in equal groups. You could find out how much coins he had with different kinds of groups." Owen






News Article Summaries

"We typed our summaries onto the new websites." Son

"Our summary was about our city and we had take the notes that we wrote down and make it into a short paragraph." Jumana


Locked Room Testing

"We got into groups and we tested out some of other people's Locked Rooms. Some people went across their's and the other partners had to figure it out instead of them telling them." Dorela

"We also had to solve other people's Locked Room to see if it was really hard or easy. After we finished the first one we would move onto the second Locked Room." Ege




Endangered Animals

"We would do a Frayer model and we would get tech and we would have to figure out the definition of endangered species and characteristics, examples and non-examples of endangered species." Isla

"We would tell Ms. Cropper which animals were endangered and she would write them up on the board. We would write 5 of the endangered animals that we wanted to research." Jake

  Upcoming Dates Grade 4  Health lessons begin next week Grade 4  June 17 - Walk to TMC June 18 - Fun Treat Day (Order by June 11) Design Challenge Grade 3 and 4 have been working on a design challenge to wrap up our work with building and testing. They are working in groups and given a scenario about a crisis in a community (Peru, India, Ukraine, Tunisia) that effects the quality of life of its citizens. Each scenario involves needing to get people across a body of water to access community supports. They worked together on initial research and brainstorming of options. Next they split into grade groups and were assigned a specific set of criteria for their design. Grade 3s will be designing a bridge and grade 4s will be designing a machine with gears and pulleys.  Seed Research We also started a research project this week around seeds. Students are working in groups to learn about a specific food product that is exported by Peru, India, Ukraine and Tunisia. Grade 4 students are focus

  Upcoming Events May 5 - Hats on for Mental Health. Wear a hat to show your support for mental health (no silly hats please) May 7 - Last Sound Kreations Hearing and Sound Grade 3 students have been working with Mrs. Glowacki to design instruments. Students have been hard at work creating their masterpieces. Their final instrument needs to change pitch and volume. French Grade 4 students have been working on learning about seasons and weather. They have begun putting together statements to answer questions about what the weather is like in each season. "Quel temp fait il en hiver? Il fait froid." Math Students are wrapping up an exploration of fractions with some work with Cuisinaire Rods. Writing "We did writing. Writing about our winter vacation." Evelyn "In writing, this week we started a book called "The One and Only Ivan" and we read it for the whole week. After we read it each day we did a retell of the story." Mila "We also did some word work. There was a couple of letters and they were scrambled and we had to try to make some words from the letters." Son Math "We were working with shapes and patterns and we had to use shapes to make a pattern. and we had to write about it." Makena "We did patterns with some blocks and we could change colour and make it big or small." Evelyn "In math, we needed to find the meaning of 5 words which were congruent, symmetrical, face, vertex and side."
