Coulee Trip (Sept. 29)

This past week we took our first trip to the coulee. When we arrived we read through the Acknowledgement of the Land. We split into some smaller groups for our exploration. 

The grade 4s talked about the purpose of the Acknowledgement and began to look for things on the land that are a value to us and compared them with things that communities is the far past would have valued on the same land.

Grade 3s explored the Porcupine rock formation and looked at different sedimentary rock formations that can be found all through the coulee. They talked about the rock cycle and aspects of sedimentary rocks.

They are working in groups and given a scenario about a crisis in a community (Peru, India, Ukraine, Tunisia) that effects the quality of life of its citizens. Each scenario involves needing to get people across a body of water to access community supports. They worked together on initial research and brainstorming of options. Next they split into grade groups and were assigned a specific set of criteria for their design.   Upcoming Events May 5 - Hats on for Mental Health. Wear a hat to show your support for mental health (no silly hats please) May 7 - Last Sound Kreations Hearing and Sound Grade 3 students have been working with Mrs. Glowacki to design instruments. Students have been hard at work creating their masterpieces. Their final instrument needs to change pitch and volume. French Grade 4 students have been working on learning about seasons and weather. They have begun putting together statements to answer questions about what the weather is like in each season. "Quel temp fait il en hiver? Il fait froid." Math Students are wrapping up an exploration of fractions with some work with Cuisinaire Rods. Writing "We did writing. Writing about our winter vacation." Evelyn "In writing, this week we started a book called "The One and Only Ivan" and we read it for the whole week. After we read it each day we did a retell of the story." Mila "We also did some word work. There was a couple of letters and they were scrambled and we had to try to make some words from the letters."
