  Upcoming Dates Grade 4  Health lessons begin next week Grade 4  June 17 - Walk to TMC June 18 - Fun Treat Day (Order by June 11) Design Challenge Grade 3 and 4 have been working on a design challenge to wrap up our work with building and testing. They are working in groups and given a scenario about a crisis in a community (Peru, India, Ukraine, Tunisia) that effects the quality of life of its citizens. Each scenario involves needing to get people across a body of water to access community supports. They worked together on initial research and brainstorming of options. Next they split into grade groups and were assigned a specific set of criteria for their design. Grade 3s will be designing a bridge and grade 4s will be designing a machine with gears and pulleys.  Seed Research We also started a research project this week around seeds. Students are working in groups to learn about a specific food product that is exported by Peru, India, Ukraine and Tunisia. Grade 4 students are focus

  Upcoming Events May 5 - Hats on for Mental Health. Wear a hat to show your support for mental health (no silly hats please) May 7 - Last Sound Kreations Hearing and Sound Grade 3 students have been working with Mrs. Glowacki to design instruments. Students have been hard at work creating their masterpieces. Their final instrument needs to change pitch and volume. French Grade 4 students have been working on learning about seasons and weather. They have begun putting together statements to answer questions about what the weather is like in each season. "Quel temp fait il en hiver? Il fait froid." Math Students are wrapping up an exploration of fractions with some work with Cuisinaire Rods. Students created pictures last week and calculated the value, and this week returned to their picture to look at the fractions connected to rod's value.  We also started work around measurement by discussing different types of measurements, units of measurement and tools used to measur

 Sound Kreations "There was an instructor names Mr. Moises and he taught us some dance moves. Today we did all of them in the song" Sam "We had a dance instructor and he taught some dance moves." Quinn Fractions "We did a word problem how we can split 1-10 fractions into 1/2. All the ones in the middle were the answer." Charlie "We got into groups and we had to figure out some fractions that were equivalent." Dorela  Cuisinaire Rods "We each got a group and we had these Cuisinaire rods which are like ten rods but they are 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. We had to make a picture with them then we had to count up what the value was all together. Genius Hour Presentations "We made posters and we shared them. We presented them to the class so they could learn from it." Aria "We heard about the topics like space, pandas, and water."   Ecosystem Presentations " We presented our ecosystems and wrote a script about it. We had our last day of working on it." Sam " We each had grade 4 (working on a trap for the cause that is making them extinct). The grade 3s were working on the ecosystem where they wouldn't get killed by any of the things that were happening to them." Makena Newscast Presentations "Every country or city shared their videos that they made. You had to write a script a script and write down all their disasters they had and you had to film it. Yesterday we showed the class." Charlie "In the videos we talked about our countries and the problem." Mason "We posted our videos on our sites about the news in our city or country."   Upcoming Dates Spring Break Next Week April 6 - first day back Ecosystem Project We finished building our ecosystems and solutions to the problem that is causing the animal to be endangered or vulnerable. Students made plans as large groups and then broke into two smaller groups to make the two related structures. Newscasts This week we filmed and edited our Newscasts for our community projects. Students used their research to help create their scripts. Our next step will be to upload or videos to the websites. Genius Hour We got a good start on building and making our final projects for Genius Hour. Students are creating posters, slide shows, maps, life cycles, making objects to represent their understandings. Math In math this week, all students work on developing an understanding of remainders in division. We worked through some discussions and comparisons. Students worked in groups to solve some division problems with remainders, using blocks.  Grade 4s wrapped up their work with
